Chemical hair straightening
Saturday, January 7th, 2006Chemical hair straightening is the harshest of hair treatments, so it is worth talking to your hairdresser about it before you choose this way of taming those curls. The salon treatment is similar to having a permanent wave, but instead of wrapping your hair around rollers, it is straightened using cardboard templates.
The results will depend on your hair - just how curly is it, has it been coloured, what is its condition? You won’t get a sleek, straight curtain of hair, but the curls will be more relaxed, better defined, wavy instead of frizzy. The hairdresser will apply a protective oil first and you don’t have to have your whole head treated, so if your under hair is curliest, you could just have that part done.
You should also talk to your hairdresser about maintaining your hair after straightening. The salon will advise you on the best products to keep your hair in good condition and keep those curls under control.
